Quarterly Meeting Recap
What a wonderful turnout we had at our recent quarterly meeting held in late January. It was great to see so many faces back in-person (as well as virtually), and thanks to those of you for updating and sharing with us such a wealth of news and information about all the new and exciting things happening within your organizations and local areas!
The meeting’s program centered around Digital Equity in Mississippi: The Role(s) of Nonprofits, Philanthropy, and State and Federal Agencies. Our guest speakers were Angelique Lee from BEAM (Broadband Expansion and Accessibility of Mississippi) and Dr. Jeanine Abrams McClean, President of Atlanta-based Fair Count, who both gave such informative presentations regarding the current state of accessibility to digital technology including internet speeds throughout our state, their ongoing efforts, and steps you can take should you find yourself in an underserved community and feel unaccounted for!
Millions of dollars are being invested in expanding access to and usage of digital technology in schools, organizations offices, and homes. The Alliance, through the Education Affinity Group, continues to provide information for the Mississippi Department of Education and other key stakeholders involved in the effort, and we strongly support equity in both the provision of products and access to technology.
