The Alliance offers learning opportunities, capacity building, and organizational development for our members and not-yet members representing nonprofits and philanthropic organizations in Mississippi. We help these organizations build their knowledge, strengthen their skills, and establish connections with their peers and content experts throughout the state. We work in partnership with content experts, local partners, and statewide and national partners to deliver programming services that are relevant and innovative.
Our approach is shaped around where and how you prefer to learn.
In-person: Workshops, Trainings, and Conferences
We deliver high quality trainings on a range of topics in communities across the state. Our capacity building and organizational development offerings are based on The Alliance Principle & Practices—national best practices and standards of management excellence.
We work with content experts to make sure the information is current and actionable. We partner with community foundations, United Ways, local nonprofit and philanthropic networks, state agencies, and other key partners to build connections. We also work with state and national partners such as Volunteer Mississippi (Mississippi Commission on Volunteer Service), Network for Good, Candid, (formerly GuideStar & The Foundation Center), and The United Philanthropy Forum.

In peer groups: Expert Technical Assistance, Webinars, and Toolkits
A lot of learning happens when you are together with colleagues. You attend a Rotary meeting and learn something from a speaker. You sit through a board meeting with dedicated time for learning on the agenda. You join a professional association or network gathering to share ideas—and sometimes commiserate—with people facing the same issues you are.
We provide learning tools that can be used in existing meetings. For example, our short videos work well in a 15-minute learning segment during a board or coalition meeting.
On your own: Online Courses, Videos, and Toolkits
We use the most up-to-date learning technology to make sure you can learn when the timing is right for you. Maybe you need a refresher on how to read a balance sheet or ideas on what you can do to get your board to raise more money. We have an online learning platform with materials to help you learn when you need it and where it’s most convenient for you—all based on The Alliance Principles & Practices for Management Excellence.
