Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Statement

In light of the recent tragic and painful events—the death of George Floyd and others—that resulted in demonstrations in cities across our nation, The Mississippi Alliance of Nonprofits and Philanthropy reaffirms its commitment to its core values of diversity, equity, and inclusion.

These values are non-negotiable, and they guide our work focused on strengthening philanthropic and nonprofit organizations, thereby improving the lives of Mississippi’s children, families, and communities. We stand firm against all forms of injustice, inequality, and racism, all of which threaten the vision of a more just and fair society for all.

We call on ourselves and others to reflect on our own experiences with prejudice, stereotyping, and discrimination, using those experiences to increase our commitment to be part of the change needed to ensure fairness and equality for all people. We believe this to be an “opportune moment” when meaningful change can occur – let us not waste the moment.

The Alliance leadership, staff, and Board of Directors are in the process of developing both short and long-term action steps that will allow us to reflect, listen, learn, and engage with our members and the community. These steps will reflect both the internal and external work that we need to address to become the exemplar of leadership, transparency, and reconciliation.
