Course Description

Intergenerational volunteer programs engage older adults and youth in different types of opportunities and situations. These programs help older generations stay connected, transmit cultural traditions and values to younger ones, and help seniors retain a sense of identity. Younger generations gain knowledgeable mentors who motivate and encourage them, while simultaneously acting as students of Gen Y skills such as social media and technology. In this survey class, learn the benefits of intergenerational volunteer programs, some potential pitfalls when creating a program, and explore case studies from successful past programs.
